I’m going to answer some common questions about the 2026 Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennial, which has officially opened for registration starting from September 1st, 2025.
The theme of this Biennial is “The Future of Ceramics.”
This event mainly targets five categories of ceramic artists:
- Ceramic vessels
 - Ceramic sculpture
 - Ceramic painting
 - Ceramic installation
 - Ceramic video / ceramic-based digital media
 
Jingdezhen Ceramic University has already successfully hosted two editions of the International Ceramic Art Biennial, and I personally participated in their 2023–2024 Biennials. After checking the official website of Jingdezhen Ceramic University, I prepared this Q&A in a video format. I believe this information will be very helpful to artists around the world.
❓Do I need to pay a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee.
❓Which types of ceramic artists are eligible?
Artists are grouped into five types:
Ceramic vessels, ceramic sculpture, ceramic installation, ceramic painting, and ceramic video.
❓How do I complete real-name identity verification when registering?
You need to:
- Submit a real-name resume** within 200 words
 - Provide a personal photograph
 - Upload photos of your artworks
If the artwork is co-created by multiple artists, you must also submit the list of all team members involved in that piece. 
❓What are the requirements for submitting artworks online?
Artists upload their works through the official online system.
Once the system shows “Pending Review,” it means your submission has been received successfully.
Each artwork must include:
- A short written description within 100 words
 - Photos from three different views
 - Electronic images with resolution no lower than 300 DPI
 
For installation works, you must also provide installation instructions and exhibition requirements.
For video works:
- MP4 format
 - Length no longer than 15 minutes
 - A promotional poster is also required
 - Poster format: PDF or CMYK file
 
❓What is the theme of the 2026 Biennial?
The theme explores:
- What will the future of ceramics be like under increasingly advanced digital technologies?
 - How can the glorious historical achievements of both Eastern and Western ceramics connect more deeply with future innovation?
 - How will today’s technologies contribute to ceramic art?
 
Artists must use ceramics as the creative medium** to show the direction of future ceramic art.

The Biennial is jointly organized by:
- Jiangxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism
 - Jingdezhen Municipal Government
 - Jingdezhen Ceramic University
 - International Academy of Ceramics (IAC)
 - China Cultural Group Co., Ltd.
 
❓Who are the jury members? Are they only from Jingdezhen?
No.Besides professors and experts from Jingdezhen Ceramic University, the jury also consists of recognized ceramic artists from: UK, USA, Netherlands, France, Belgium, South Korea, Thailand, Germany, Japan, and Spain.
It is a professional international jury panel.
❓Are there any restrictions on who can apply?
The Biennial is open to:
- Ceramic artists
 - Ceramic designers
 - University students and teachers
 - Interdisciplinary creators
 
From China and worldwide.

❓What is the exhibition period?
From June 26, 2026 to March 31, 2027
Total duration: 9 months
❓What are the requirements for the artworks?
1️⃣ Must be made using ceramic materials
2️⃣ Ceramic materials must account for 50% or more of the final work
3️⃣ Must be completed within the last 3 years
4️⃣ Cannot have won any major domestic or international awards
If any violation is discovered later, the work will be disqualified from selection and awards.

🖼️ ⚠️Note about Museum Collection
Grand Award, First Prize, and Daoshi Prize works will be collected permanently by the Jingdezhen Ceramic University Museum.
They must be complete artworks —
Not allowed to be altered, replaced, or separated into parts.

From August 12, 2025 to December 25, 2025.
So please apply before Christmas.
❓What is the full schedule and workflow?
1️⃣ Submit online application & digital artworks
2️⃣ Initial review in January 2026
→ Jury selects 220 finalist works
3️⃣ Initial review results announced by January 20, 2026
→ Public announcement for 3 days
→ Published on the Jingdezhen Ceramic University & Biennial websites
4️⃣ Ship physical artworks to Jingdezhen
- From January 21, 2026 to May 20, 2026
 - All transportation costs, including insurance, customs and handling fees are at the artist’s own expense
⚠️ Failure to deliver on time = automatic withdrawal 
5️⃣ Final onsite judging in late June 2026

❓What are the rights and responsibilities of participating artists?
✅ Originality
- Must be original works with no copyright issues
 
✅ True Information
- All personal information must be accurate and truthful
 
✅ Clear Copyright Ownership
- Artists must own full rights to their submitted works
 
🚚 Transportation & Safety Responsibility
- Damage or loss during shipping → Artist is responsible
 - Defective outer packaging → Committee may refuse receipt
 - Committee takes no liability for shipping problems
 
🛠️ If minor damage is discovered after arrival:
- Artist may come to Jingdezhen to repair, at their own cost
 - Committee can assist repair, butNot responsible for any unexpected repair issues
 
Installation Works
- Artists must come to Jingdezhen to install the artwork
 - Costs are self-funded
 - If committee assists installation, detailed written/video guidance must be provided
Installation accidents → Committee not responsible 
Insurance during exhibition
Exhibition and return-shipment insurance covered by committee
(only after safe arrival and official acceptance)
Artwork Collection Rules
- 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize winners → Permanent museum collection
 - Must remain complete, undivided, unchanged
 - Emerging and Finalist works are not required for collection
→ May be voluntarily donated
→ If not donated, artworks returned to artist 
❓How do international artists complete online registration?
There is an official system and process for registration.
International artists may sometimes have issues receiving SMS verification codes.
